Or more affectionately, “Gwennie”

Gwennie the Wondering Bird is a 1976 Type 2 Microbus born in Hanover, Germany, on Thursday, September 25, 1975. A Libra, Gwennie’s nature element is air, of course! She’s a vintage, air-cooled Volkswagen that loves toting guests around North Idaho with the wind blowing through her body and soul. Gwennie’s all about peace and harmony, and is open to the new and unexplored. She’s also extremely charming!

Gwennie’s greatest overall compatibility is with Sagittarius, of course! Her soul mate, Michelle, is a Sagittarius, and together their desire is to bring some peace, harmony and charm to your life while exploring the pristine beauty of North Idaho!

Initially bound for San Francisco, it’s believed Gwennie spent her entire life in California, in the loving hands of owners who took excellent care of her. Having been in storage for seven years, Gwennie was about 75% restored and almost went to auction - unfinished and with her engine and transmission packed up in her cargo area. Her prior owner was unable to finish her restoration because of a job promotion and not enough time to spend with her. The timing was perfect and the price was right to bring Gwennie to her new home in Sandpoint, Idaho, voted Most Beautiful Small Town in America by USA Today and Rand McNally.

Gwennie sports a 2.0 liter fuel injected engine, 4-speed manual transmission, a touring sunroof, and seats seven comfortably with a seatbelt for each guest. She’s painted Pastel White on top and Reef Blue on the bottom, both original VW bus colors. Gwennie also features a newly installed P.A. system and a new stereo with USB and AUX ports.

Owning a vintage, air-cooled vehicle is not for the faint-of-heart, as charming and endearing as a VW bus is. They call for lots of love and finding an air-cooled VW specialist in the small town of Sandpoint (population 8,000), was the missing link in the overall plan of starting a tour operation featuring a vintage VW bus.

Harken back to a warm summer day in 2018 outside of a local coffee shop, which found Michelle stalking the owner of a bright green VW truck in hopes of finding out who serviced it, anticipating that person was local. Low and behold, the owner, Chuck Leuttgerodt, turned out to be an award-winning, air-cooled VW restoration specialist with 40 years of VW experience under his belt. Talk about groovy!

Not only that, it turns out Chuck owns VW UNLTD and Inland Aviation Specialties. Still blown away by their chance meeting, Michelle says that having a local, air-cooled VW expert to finalize Gwennie’s restoration and oversee regular maintenance has been a key factor to Feelin’ Groovy Tours’ success.
